Interdisciplinary, applied research
Discribe is making a vital contribution to ensuring that the next generation of digital security technology is set up for success in our rapidly evolving digital world.
Our core research themes
Discribe is conducting transformative social science-led research in four core areas of concern to complement the work being done by the UK Government’s wider Digital Security by Design (DSbD) Programme. Each area is being led by one of the four universities involved in the Discribe programme.

In addition to our own core research, we are harnessing the combined efforts of other specialists. Social scientists, economists, arts & humanities professionals, computer scientists and business are contributing to a better understanding of how digital security hardware will be used, what the barriers to that use might be and how these can be overcome. This includes:
Running a Digital Security by Design (DSbD) Futures project to explore what new capabilities technology can enable.
Commissioning over £1m of research from external researchers. (For further information, please see below)
Facilitating interdisciplinary interactions through expert working groups, workshops, annual DSbD events, funded sandpits and early career research events.
